Jordan DeWester is a tubist based in Kalamazoo, MI where she is pursuing her Master of Music degree in tuba performance and serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Western Michigan University. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in tuba performance at the University of Wisconsin. She has participated in festivals such as Domaine Forget, the Atlantic Brass Quintet Seminar, Mostly Modern Festival, and the Seraph Brass Summer Seminar. She serves as the principal tubist in both the Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra at Western Michigan University, in addition to being a member of the Graduate Brass Quintet. She has also worked with the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras, where she has performed alongside students and led masterclasses for low brass players. She teaches privately in the Kalamazoo area.
Offstage, DeWester is passionate about expanding the repertoire for brass instruments. She is an avid composer and arranger, with an output ranging from large ensemble arrangements of Renaissance music to new compositions for tuba and electronics. She also founded and served as President of the Women’s Brass Club at the University of Wisconsin, which aims to support and educate women brass players on campus and in the larger musical world. Her primary teachers are Chance Trottman-Huiet and Tom Curry.
